  • Artemisia Annua / Sweet Annie) has been used for over 2,000 years in Europe and Asia and the WHO has recognised this herb to be effective against malaria and studies have shown it to have widespread anti-parasitic properties (against flukes, Schistosoma species, Babesia, and others).  It has also been demonstrated to have antibacterial activity against a diverse range of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus hirae) and antifungal properties (e.g Candida albicans and Saccaromyces cervisiae). Artemisia also may help to suppress Th17 and thus may be helpful in autoimmune conditions. Artemisin is also often used in cancer and Lyme/co-infection protocols, for viral hepatitis, chagas, anaemia, diarrhoea, dengue fever, and other tropical diseases. It is useful to take travelling as a prophylactic.
